Headquartered in beautiful historic Montebello Park in Suffern, New York (approximately 30 miles northwest of New York City), General Patent offers a unique working environment. GPC also has a satellite office in Manhattan.

General Patent Corporation (GPC) seeks Vice President & General Counsel to lead its patent licensing and enforcement business. The VP/GC will be part of the Executive Committee and will report directly to the CEO. The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of setting and implementing corporate strategy, case assessment and management, negotiating licenses and settlements, managing patent enforcement, selecting and managing outside litigation counsel, and actively managing patent litigation, while dividing the time between GPC’s Manhattan and Suffern offices.

Job Requirements:
  • JD
  • MBA is a plus
  • Preferred undergraduate degree in EE, computer science, physics, or a related field
  • Patent bar admission is a strong plus
  • New York State bar is a plus
  • 10+ years of legal experience in patent litigation and IP law at a law firm (partner level) and/or in-house
  • Familiarity with corporate law is required
  • Prior experience as GC is a strong plus
  • Computer literacy is a must
  • Excellent writing and communication skills are a must

The qualified candidate will be a seasoned and experienced patent litigator, with in-house (GC or associate GC) and private practice (partner level) experience. He or she will have strong leadership skills, superb negotiation and licensing skills, and a proven track record of leading legal teams or departments. The successful candidate will have vision, initiative, versatility, and broad technical erudition.
