JPTOS Writing Competition

The Governors of the Journal of the Patent & Trademark Office Society are pleased to announce a writing competition open to all currently enrolled JD and LLM students. Applicants are invited to submit a paper on any topical issue regarding U.S. or international intellectual property law. Selected entries will appear in the Journal’s upcoming electronic edition.

To be considered, students must email their papers to articles@jptos.org no later than Friday, May 16, 2014, using the subject line “JPTOS Writing Competition.” Submitted papers must be the original, unpublished work of a single author and no longer than 40 pages, including footnotes. Manuscript text should be double-spaced with one-inch margins on all sides, and footnotes should be single-spaced with double-spacing between footnotes. Citations must conform to the 19th Ed. of The Bluebook. Submitted papers should also include a coversheet providing: Title; Author's name and contact information (email, postal address, and telephone number); and Law school and anticipated graduation date.

As the oldest publishing intellectual property law journal in America, the Journal provides a forum dedicated to the discussion of legal and technical subjects related to patent, trademark, and copyright laws. The Journal boasts a broad and diverse readership that includes practicing attorneys, judges, and law professors. By instituting an annual writing competition, the Governors wish to encourage innovative student scholarship on current topics in intellectual property law and increase student involvement with the Journal.
