Patent No. U.S. 2,258,999 A

Golf Player’s Glove

Inventors: Edward S Nunn

Description: Edward Nunn, seemingly patented one of the first, if not the first, golf glove. After some research, I could not seem to find any prior applications or patents for a golf glove.

With that being said, the golf glove he created was to be used as a “practical and inexpensive glove, which when worn, will be highly effective in bringing about the proper positioning of the shaft of the club” Col. 1, lines 3-6, US Patent 2,258,999.

The glove use a “pad or protuberance” Id at Col. 1, line 11, “to promote pronation or the turning of the left hand underneath the shaft during the up swing of the club” Id at Col. 1, lines 14-16.

The glove also claims to assist the golfer “to maintain a straight left arm and the maintenance of the pressure of the grip of the shaft in the proper place” Id at Col. 1, lines 24-26.

Edward created a simple yet crafty use of both an article of clothing and multiple golf lessons. This would assist the user in the perfecting or maintaining the proper golf mechanics throughout the use of this product.

Golf and it’s theories of swing mechanics have evolved over time and so have the products. More patents relating to golf and their use to come.
