Director, Intellectual Property Clinic and Professor from Practice

Penn State Law is seeking an experienced legal professional to plan, oversee and implement all functions and activities of its new Intellectual Property (IP) Law Clinic. The clinic is designed to provide Penn State Law students with significant IP law experience and to provide the Penn State and local community support in protecting its intellectual property. Responsibilities include directing Penn State Law’s Intellectual Property (IP) Law Clinic, teaching a doctrinal IP law school class or classes, teaching a class or classes to non-law graduate or undergraduate students within Penn State, and serving as a liaison from Penn State Law to the Colleges of Engineering, Science, and Business, with an emphasis on raising awareness of legal careers in intellectual property.

This position requires a J.D. degree from an accredited law school. Five years or more of experience practicing intellectual property law is highly desirable. Classroom teaching experience is also highly desirable, but not required. Successful applicants must be members of, or eligible for admission to, the Pennsylvania Bar and registered, or eligible for registration with, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Other qualifications include a keen desire to teach law students how to navigate this challenging area of the law and the patience to work with the students as they develop as lawyers. This position is a benefits eligible, fixed-term academic appointment beginning in Spring or Fall 2016 and funded for two years from date of hire with excellent possibility of renewal.
